The navy released a statement saying the drill was held to strengthen military readiness amid North Korean provocations. The training was conducted simultaneously by the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd fleets, and included maritime gunfire and maneuver training by 13 navy ships and three aircraft. South Korea’s Chief of Naval Operations, Yang Yong-mo said it’s important to clearly acknowledge the serious security situation amid Pyongyang’s continued provocations. The Chief added the basis of military readiness comes from the strong willingness to lay down one’s life to protect the nation’s sea.
