Czech Republic: Protesters rally outside Russian embassy as Prague expels diplomats

Protesters gathered outside the Russian embassy in Prague on Sunday after Czech Republic announced it will expel 18 Russian diplomats on suspicions that Russian intelligence was behind ammunition warehouse explosions in 2014. Around 150 people congregated outside the embassy chanting, singing songs and holding banners. Riot police were in large numbers at the scene as the crowd grew more rowdy. One arrest was made but the protest remained mostly peaceful throughout. The decision to expel the diplomats was announced by Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis a day earlier. “There is well-grounded suspicion about the involvement of officers of the Russian intelligence service GRU in the explosion of [an] ammunitions depot in the Vrbetice area,“ Babis told national TV.
