This unusual small cat is only represented in a small number of zoological collections across the world; Edinburgh Zoo is one of only two European collections to hold the Tibetan subspecies, with a handful of other European collections holding the Southeastern subspecies () and only a single collection - Thrigby Hall in Norfolk - holding the Chinese subspecies ().
