Slippery slimy Eels with long narrow bodies, look a lot like snakes. But, they are actually a type of fish. They have sharp teeth. And gills to breathe under water. And like other fish, they have several fins. These fins join to make one long ribbon fin, which runs along the body. Can you see how the eel moves through the water? Eels can be found in both fresh water, and salt water. But some can live in both. They love to hide in holes, or between rocks, in places called ‘eel pits’. Or in coral… like this spotted eel. That way they can sneak up on their prey! Did you know? Eels can live for a very long time. Some eels like the long finned eel, can live for upto 80 years. On the island of Huahine in the pacific, Huahine eels are considered really important by the locals. They grow very large. And you are allowed to feed them small fish. That looks like fun.
