The Chaplin Band - Gold 1982

The Chaplin Band was a Dutch Soul band from Maastricht, which existed from 1976 to 1992. The band was founded by brothers John and Jo Bartels order to respond to the emerging disco craze. The first song Let’s Have A Party became an instant success in 1976 and 1977 and was five weeks in the Top 40. In 1982 the band had a summer hit with the song in Italian language Il Veliero (the sail boat), a cover of Italian singer Lucio Battisti. Of this number for an instrumental part was there was a short and a long 12 inch version. The number was 11 weeks in the Top 40 with the highest ranking number 24. Other famous songs were Gold, and Welcome to the party. During this time the band existed alongside the brothers Willy Bartels further Bronzwaer, January Gela and Walter Nita.
