Stars Fight Cinema Tax (1959)

Titles read: “LONDON - STARS FIGHT CINEMA TAX“. London. General view across the River Thames of the House of Commons. We then see various shots of British film stars arriving at the entrance to the House of Commons to try to convince members that the Cinema Tax should be abolished. Commentator tells us that cinemas still have to pay tax while all other entertainments have been freed from it. Actresses Janette Scott and Yvonne Mitchell arrive together. Peggy Cummins pays her taxi fare and walks towards camera. She is photographed by press outside the entrance of the House of Commons. Anna Neagle arrives; her car door is opened by Bill Symon and Anna and is welcomed by Edward Hinge, President of the Cinematograph Exhibitors Association. Sir Tom O’Brien walks into picture and shakes hands with Anna. Actors John Gregson and the recently knighted Sir Alec Guinness (looking very dapper) chat outside the House of Commons entrance.
