In the evocative setting of Burford Church, one of our members gave a talk about the group known as The Levellers at the launch of a new rugby league team named in their honour.
West Oxfordshire Levellers RLFC was launched on the anniversary of the deaths of Leveller mutineers Private Biggs and Private Piggen at Gloucester Green, in Oxford, on 18th September 1649.

With thanks to John from West Oxfordshire Levellers RLFC, Burford Church, and the Sealed Knot.
NB: there is one slight factual error in the talk - the mutineers at Burford were part of the mutiny at Salisbury, not Banbury. They were on their way to Banbury when they were surrounded by troops and defeated.
