Two-dimensional wakes behind a circular cylinder in a non newtonian fluid Ana Karina Cisneros, Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM Mario Avila, Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM Carlos Echeverria, Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM David Porta, Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM Catalina Stern, Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM DOI: Wakes can be produced by placing a cylinder in a flowing soap film. In this experimental work we show the differences between wakes in the vicinity of the cylinder, produced at different speeds. Soap solutions are non newtonian fluids. The basic tunnel flow was characterized via Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV), for the four cases shown in the videos. The maximum speeds of the stationary flows measured in the test area are: 0.8, 1.2, 1.9 and 2.1 m/s. Two different methods were used to visualize the dynamics of the wakes: iridescence and a variation of a shadowgraph technique. Both depend on the local variations of the thickness of the soap film. Each method shows
