Impossible View of Mont Blanc from Mount Snowdon -- Nouvelle Géographie PLANétaire

Let’s do the math. (And please check to see if I did it correctly.) Snowdon is 3650 feet above sea level and is the highest peak in Wales. Mont Blanc is 15,777 feet above sea level and is the highest mountain in France. 15,777 - 3650 = 12,127. That’s a difference of 12,127 feet between the heights of both peaks. We’ll use this number later. The curvature of the globe (AT SEA LEVEL) over a distance of 700 miles is calculated as follows: First, we SQUARE the distance in miles (that means we multiply it times itself): 700 x 700 = 490,000. Next, we multiply 490,000 times inches: 490,000 x = 3,171,770 INCHES. Then, we DIVIDE that 3,171,770 inches by 12 to get FEET of drop: 3,171,770 / 12 = 264,314 FEET of drop over 700 miles on the globe model (at sea level). Now, subtract the DIFFERENCE between mountain elevations (12,127 feet) from the total drop: 264,314 FEET - 12,127 FEET = 252,187 FEET of curvature drop SHOULD exist between these
