1976 – SOVIET FUNK/DISCO – Alla Pugacheva – Buben Shamana / Алла Пугачева – Бубен Шамана

“Buben Shamana” («Бубен Шамана», “Shaman’s Tambourine“ in Russian) is a Funk/Disco song to music by Alexander Zatsepin that got famous after soviet Pop superstar Alla Pugacheva released it in 1978 on her debut studio LP “Mirror of the Soul“. The release of the song in a solo album was preceded by its entry into the movie “Center from the Heavens“, as well as the release on the eponymous minion with a promotional soundtrack to it (1976). The song is created and recorded in a combination of several genres, such as pop music, art rock with elements of psychedelic, funk and blues rock. In addition “Shaman’s Tambourine“, “Center from the Heavens OST includes other songs recorded by Pugacheva, such as “Verblyud” (Camel, featuring the Soviet pop-band “Vesyolye Rebyata”), “Ooh-Ooh”, “Do svidanniya leto” (Goodbye Summer) and “Lyubov’ odna vinovata” (Love is alone to blame). Pugacheva recalled that during the recording of “Shaman’s Tambourine“ she had a cold and, because of the high octave at the end of the second verse, tore off her voice for several months. The singer had to restore it for a long time with breathing exercises. However, her voice could not be fully restored, and she could no longer sing in falsetto. The song was recorded once and Pugacheva never re-recorded neither performed this song at her live shows. The recording cast included: Vocals — Alla Pugacheva Backing vocals - soloists of the VIA “Jolly Fellows“ (Alexander Barykin, Robert Mushkambaryan, Anatoly Aleshin). Instrumental ensemble conducted by Vitaly Kleinot. Arrangement — Vitaliy Kleinot. The song was first released in 1976 on 7’ record named “Alla Pugacheva Sings Songs from the Movie “Center from the Heavens“. In May 1978, Pugacheva released her first solo LP “Zerkalo Dushi” (Mirror of the Soul), which included her recordings of 1975-1977. “Shaman’s Tambourine” was placed at the first song on A-side of the double LP. In 1978, this album was released in Bulgaria under the title “Ogledalo na dushata”, and in 1980 Czechoslovak edition was released as “Zrkadlo duše“.
