STRAIGHT Over STRAIGHT For $533,500!

Watch this wild high stakes poker hand that took place during a Hustler Casino Live stream between Dan ’Jungleman’ Cates & entrepreneur Santhosh Suvarna. The action starts with Ethan ’Rampage Poker’ Yau raising from the button with J8o. Jungleman senses weakness and decides to 3-bet to $8,500 from the big blind. Santhosh looks down at the beautiful KQs and has a decision as to whether to just call or 4-bet. Jonathan believes a 4-bet is the better play here. If you call you will often let the button stick around as well which is not ideal as you will be now playing out of position. The flop gives Jungleman an open ended straight draw with a backdoor flush draw and it gives Santhosh a gutshot. Any jack would spell disaster for Jungleman as they would both make a straight. Jonathan loves Jungleman using 8c7s as a hand to check raise on this board. He only has eight high but still has lots of equity to beat most of Santhosh’s range so the check-raise with this particular poker hand makes a lot of sense. It’s a rough spot for Santhosh when facing the check-raise but he has a few clean outs to the nuts and also has overcards to the board that could be good. Jungleman is a very capable player and would also be semi-bluffing with hands such as the one he has which makes this call from Santhosh even better. The turn doesn’t add any extra equity to Jungleman’s hand as he does not hit a club. He does however continue to bet for around half pot, Santhosh who is still the non-believer makes the call. Jonathan thinks it’s a reasonable size to bet given his stack size as it would set up for a good size to shove on the river. Having said that, if he wanted to really get the marginal 1 pair hands to fold he may want to opt for a slightly larger bet size. Santhosh actually has one of the best hands to hero call with as it is unlikely that Jungleman would check-raise his ace high flush draws on the flop which means Santhosh’s king high is going to be beating all of Jungleman’s potential bluffs. If you have a hand that you know is pretty much the nuts and you have a stack size that cannot really check-raise due to it being shallow - put your money into the middle yourself! Do not try and slow play. If your opponent has a marginal made hand then they may just check behind if you check. Jonathan’s new book: 100 Essential Tips To Master No-Limit Hold’em is now available!
