Honshu Island is sinking! Crazy floods hit Japan!

Extreme weather continues to affect Japan. Thousands of people were advised to evacuate on Thursday after heavy rains hit the island of Honshu. The Tohoku and Chubu regions were the hardest hit. In Niigata Prefecture, more than 500 mm of rain fell in some areas in a day. Roads were flooded, bridges damaged or blocked. Rural areas were particularly affected, where local rivers overflowed their banks. Authorities have issued the highest possible level of disaster warning. Traffic was suspended on one of the sections of the bullet train line. Major chipmaker Renesas Electronics Corporation has temporarily suspended operations at its Yamagata plant. In Murakami, due to flooding and a power outage, the work of the Technoflex plant was stopped. In total, about 500,000 people in the prefectures of Niigata, Ishikawa and Yamagata received notifications of a possible evacuation.
