Our intent moving into our first year as a partnership has been to push ourselves creatively by choreographing multiple routines throughout the year rather than a single competitive piece. As events began returning with opportunities to perform routines as show pieces rather than competitive ones, it seemed like an ideal time to challenge our artistic abilities. In April, we had the opportunity to perform in such a show. We’d been experimenting and moving to songs with non-traditional time signatures in practice and decided to utilize this non-competitive format to challenge ourselves, to push and pull West Coast Swing elements to still be recognizable in music that does not traditionally fit the form.
