On this day in 1989, Di Stéfano won the Super Ballon d’Or

’La Saeta Rubia’ received the award 27 years ago. On the 24th of December 1989, Alfredo Di Stéfano was presented with the Super Ballon d’Or by France Football. This one-time-only prize was the French publication’s way of paying tribute to the madridista legend’s magnificent career. Di Stéfano won the voting ahead of Cruyff and Platini. The Saeta Rubia’s (“Blond Arrow“) time in a Real Madrid jersey marked a before and after for the club, with his performances making him a key figure in the club’s first five consecutive European Cup triumphs. His displays were also awarded with two Ballon d’Or prizes, in 1957 and 1959. SUBSCRIBE to our YouTube channel and never miss another Real Madrid video!
