A 2009 comment by former U.S. Vice President Al Gore that the North Pole would be ice-free by summer 2013 has gone viral in tandem with COP26 climate talks in Glasgow. According to a “fact-check“ by Reuters, Gore was merely quoting a scientist rather than making the claim himself, although he misstated the scientist’s data.
