1918 Demob Lottery In U.S. (1918)

No title. M/S of a group of men standing in front of a board with hundreds of three figure numbers written upon it. A man walks towards the table in the foreground and it blindfolded. He then puts his hand into a container full of (presumably) small pieces of paper. He pulls out a piece of paper and hands it to a man in uniform. He opens out the paper. “Vice-President Marshall, Secretary Daniels and other high officials drew numbers which kept the endless line marching.“ Another official is blindfolded and he picks out a piece of paper. High angle shot of soldiers on the march. Various L/Ss of explosions. High angle shot of soldiers running across wasteland. M/S of soldiers running through landscape through smoke. More explosions. M/S soldiers on the march silhouetted against the sky. First World War combat footage - may be real, may be reconstruction. Note: this may be from a Walter Futter’s Curiosities film so may be a retrospective look at this from the mid/late 1920s. FILM ID: A
