Addiction is often formed because of neuroplasticity, which is the brain’s ability to reorganize and adapt its structure and function. Essentially, neuroplasticity refers to the “road map“ of your brain, and it determines how the brain works and responds to stimuli.
Karma and your actions play a significant role in shaping this road map. Every action, good or bad, leaves an imprint on your brain, much like samskara in yoga philosophy. This is especially relevant when we face hurdles or stress (vrittis) in life. For instance, if you have an assignment with a tight deadline, it can cause stress. That stress might lead to harmful actions or karma, like smoking or engaging in toxic behaviors to temporarily relieve the stress.
