Germany: Riot police deploy water cannons at Hamburg demo held amidst COVID restrix

At least six water cannons were deployed on the streets of Hamburg on Saturday, after the city banned several planned demonstrations by various left-wing groups on May Day due to coronavirus restrictions. Nevertheless, spontaneous demonstrations popped up across the city, with columns of police vehicles zig zagging across Hamburg to disperse the crowds. Water cannons were deployed on those who had gathered near the left-wing autonomous centre ’Rote Flora’ after they refused to leave the streets, and scuffles also broke out between police and activists. Other spontaneous demonstrations were held near the main train station and the Schlump U-bahn station.
