Classic TV Theme: Skippy

’Skippy’ (1968) was a kangaroo who lived in an Australian park. As a baby she was befriended by brothers Sonny and Mark, whose dad was park ranger. Now she lives freely in the park but has a close bond with the family that helped raise her, and has various adventures with the children. She also displays unusual intelligence and can collect the mail, operate a radio etc. The series ran for three seasons and was syndicated in at least 80 countries, at the time more than any other tv show. The theme song is by British-born Eric Jupp who moved down under in 1961 to take a position as music director at Australia’s ABC. A sequel series in 1992 had Sonny all grown up and married, with a pet kangaroo named, of course, Skippy. Theme pitch and speed corrected. 00:00 Opening titles. 00:59 End credits.
