ECUADOR: NEOLIBERALISM AND CARTELS After 7 years of austerity measures and a rise of corruption in a weakened state, Ecuador is now on the brink of social collapse. International crime corporations control hundreds of criminal bands that work as contractors, and allow these cartels to control most of the continent. Meanwhile, Ecuador’s US-backed President Daniel Noboa is imposing de facto martial law while violating international law to crack down on his political opponents, most recently with the arrest of former VP Jorge Glas inside the Mexican embassy in Quito.
