EU’s Tusk criticizes Russia’s ban on flights to Georgia | DW News

DW News Опубликовано: 14 июл. 2019 г. European Council President Donald Tusk has criticized Russia’s decision to ban flights to Georgia amid increasing tensions between the two neighbors. During a visit to Georgia on Thursday, Tusk pledged EU support for the country. Georgia has seen weeks of protests against Russian President Vladimir Putin and the continued presence of Russian troops in two breakaway regions, South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Russia and Georgia fought a brief war in 2008, and since then diplomatic ties have been severed. In addition to the flight ban, some Russian lawmakers called for the banning of Georgian products. The idea hasn’t gone down well with ordinary people in Moscow. DW’s Vladimir Esipov spoke asked Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili about her country’s 15-year-long effort to join the European Union.
