GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Avalanche () | DeSmith Earns .976 SV% On the Night

For the first game back after the All-Star break, the Pittsburgh Penguins hosted the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night. The 1st period was a quiet one with no goals or penalties taken by either team. Half way through the 2nd, the Penguins would get the first power play opportunity of the game. That chance quickly turned into a 4-on-4. The Avalanche took full advantage and gained the lead off a shot by Nathan MacKinnon. Later in the period, the Penguins received another penalty but killed it off and that would finish the period. The 3rd would start with a lot of back and forth play until the Penguins got their third penalty of the game. Once again, they successfully kill it off. With three minutes left in regulation, Bryan Rust helped direct a bouncing puck towards the net. After a few more quick bounces of Avalanche players, the puck crossed the goal line tying the game 1-1 and forced overtime.
