Flying on the Boeing B-29 Superfortress “FiFi“

Another item off my bucket flight on the last operating Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber, operated by the Commemorative Air Force as “FiFi“. This flight took place on Sunday, July 19, 2015, at Dane County Airport (aka the Madison, Wisconsin, airport) which serves the Air National Guard, commercial feeder flights, and general aviation. FiFi was en route to the big airshow at Oshkosh. She usually has all passenger spots booked up early, and I had repeatedly missed out on flying on this plane in past years. July 19 it worked out, and I initially reserved the bombardier’s seat right up in the nose, but then learned that whoever sits there can only see forward, cannot get up and look elsewhere during the flight, and since I wanted a richer experience I changed to the only other available seat, the radio operator’s position next to the flight engineer.
