After music training with his father, he went to Halle as a law student. He served as a lawyer and chamber musician at the Darmstadt court (1738–41), and then was in the service of the Royal Chapel in Berlin. In 1766 he was made a chamber musician and legal advisor to the Prince of Prussia. His compositions were lost during World War II.
