Which bases make double and triple bonds - mnemonic technics
Cytosine and guanine are important pyrimidine bases that are parts of the basic building units of DNA, the nucleotides.
They both have three centers for hydrogen bonding to be formed between them(base pairing) when the two strands of DNA are joined. These hydrogen bonds that hold the two strands together and help maintaing the double-helix structure of DNA.
Cytosine has two hydrogen bond acceptors and one donor to be paired with two hydrogen bond donors and one acceptor of guanine. This is not the case in adenine and thymine which could form only two hydrogen bonds between them during base pairing process.
