The Truth About Toyota Celica Performance Mods - 2zzge Horsepower *MUST WATCH

Toyota Celica Performance Mods What up Car People? Ariel here. On the last episode I made a response to Scotty Kilmers video “Why not buy a Toyota Celica.” Where Scotty singles out the 7th gen Celica or ZZT231. While editing that video I thought it would be a good idea to put together a performance guide for people interested in the Celica platform specifically the 2zzge powered variant the Celica GTS or Celica T-Sport in some markets. Maintanence The first mod for any used car should be maintanance. I would recommend addressing any leaks by replacing gaskets as needed and resealing. Spark plugs and cleaning the mass air flow sensor regularly will keep your 2zzge healthy and responsive. Transmission fluid is often not spoken about but the Celica GTS doesn’t have the strongest trans in the industry but thats common with FWD. Be sure to keep your transmission fluid fresh and use high quality fluid like Redline Shockproof. A cold air intake will give you the best response while a short ram will give the best sound. They will both suffer from heatsoak when compared to a stock air filter air box combo but only the cold air is succeptable to taking in water during heavy rain which can cause engine damage. They reduce restriction slightly but add great sound and performance feel. To get the full potential of any bolt ons a stand alone ECU is recommended. Tried and True performance. PPE Header PPE’s stainless steel racing headers are constructed of mandrel bent tubing sized to optimize your engine’s torque and power curves through the mid and high range for great gains you’ll feel on the street and on the track. Stainless steel construction means great looks and a long service life. DDPR Intake Manifold This is the next generation of our well known Long runner intake manifold - Perfect for most 2000 - 2002 Celicas. Delivers a fantastic increase in top end power with nice gains throughout the rev range and incredible throttle response. The Version 2 upgrades include additional bracing under the runners, a new CNC DDPR logo on the plenum, and most importantly, a new CNC blended TB flange to improve internal airflow in the plenum. This manifold requires the purchase of a Q45 or RMR throttle body - available separately. (1992-1994 Infinity Q45 is preffered for stock ECU - non traction control model). RMR is preferred with standalone engine management. Reliner9k @R9ktuned – Taken from his Facebook page. ????Important Reflash Information so please READ before sending a email or PM.???? I get asked this a lot, so might as well make a small FAQ to answer questions: Q: Can you reflash a Celica GTS (any year)? A: No, we can’t reflash those ECU’s. Q: Can you reflash the 03-04 Matrix XRS? A: No, we can’t reflash those ECU’s. Q: Can you reflash the UK Corolla ECU’s? A: As far as I’ve seen no. The ECU’s are similar to the Celica GTS which I can’t reflash. This includes the newer 2005 ECU’s I’ve seen. Q: What are the ECU’s that are reflashable for the 2zz-ge? A: 89661-02C50 or 89661-02F80 (Found in the 05-06 Corolla/Matrix XRS) Q: Can I install a 05-06 XRS ECU in my “insert car here“ and reflash that? A: Technically yes, but you would need to install the complete harness off a 05-06 Corolla/Matrix and the complete immobilizer system including key cylinder and key to make it work. Q: I have a Celica GTS or 03-04 XRS, what can I do to tune my car? A: Go standalone. Depending on budget you have options such as the Apexi Power FC and AEM EMS4 as well as other more expensive ECU options.
