Jaco Pastorius - “New Reggae“ Bass Solo (Live in Ann Arbor 1983)

Here’s a recording I just got in a trade of Jaco soloing over his tune “New Reggae“ during a WOM gig that took place in Ann Arbor in October of 1983. “New Reggae“ is a tune that was a regular feature on the set lists for this tour, and of the recordings I’ve heard this is the most interesting solo I’ve heard him play on it. He sounds focused and at the top of his game to my ears, especially when considering what a chaotic tour this generally was and the mental issues he was struggling with at the time. The rest of the band on this gig was: Don Alias - percussion, Mike Stern - guitar, Kenwood Dennard - drums, Alex Foster - saxophone and Melton Mustafa - trumpet
