Tour de France 2023, Stage 8 (Libourne - Limoges), course, route, profile, animation

“Saturday, 8 July On the 8th stage of the Tour, the riders ride from Libourne to Limoges. The route is 200 kilometres long, starts flat and gets hillier at the end. The Tour and Limoges are no strangers to each other. The biggest cycling race in the world has often stopped in this city. Jan Janssen (1963), Eddy Merckx (1970, prologue), Jan Raas (1977) and Johan Lammerts (1985) are among the 13 Tour stage winners in Limoges. In 2016, Marcel Kittel was the last to celebrate there. The German won the bunch sprint against Bryan Coquard and Peter Sagan. That year, the peloton came from Saumur, now from Libourne. Two years ago, the yellow caravan visited the small town on the Dordogne at the end of the Tour. First Matej Mohoric won the 19th stage there from the breakaway group, the day after Wout van Aert started his winning time trial to Saint-Émilion in Libourne. This victory is part of a remarkable trilogy of the Fleming. He won a mountain stage, the sprint on the Champs-Elysées and the aforementioned time trial at the Tour that year. This time Limoges could be the starting point for van Aert’s victory lap. The route is flat in the first part before some undulations and sometimes even hills appear in the last 75 kilometres. Three climbs stand out in particular: the Côte de Champs-Romain (2.8 kilometres at 5.2%), the Côte de Masmont (1.3 kilometres at 5.5%) and the Côte de Condat-sur-Vienne (1.2 kilometres at 5.4%). The last two are in the last 16 kilometres, with the finale then being flat again.“ ( & Routes ’n’ Maps ’n’ Flags) Creating cycling stage animations requires a lot of work and computing power.
