The 75mm M72 round of the M4 Sherman could perforate ~100mm at point blank range, meaning that if the hull MG port could resist this round at 50m then the MG port was no weaker than the main armour. The Kugelblende 100 essentially shared the same MG port design as that on Panzer IIIs and IVs (Kugelblende 50). The Kugelblende 50 was designed to provide equal protection as the main 50-80mm armour but seems to be even more effective than intended...
