2023 Salzburger Festspiele (Ostern, Pfingsten, Sommer)/Salzburg Festival (Eastern, Whitsun, Summer)

The Salzburger Festspiele is an annual arts festival in Salzburg, Austria. The festival features various performances, including opera, theatre, classical music, and jazz. In this video, I focus on all opera performances for eastern, Whitsun and summer at the Salzburg festival 2023: Eastern: The season will present Andris Nelsons conducting Richard Wagner’s “Tannhäuser” in a production by director Romeo Castellucci. The leading roles will be sung by Marlis Petersen, Elīna Garança, Jonas Kaufmann, Georg Zeppenfeld, and Christian Gerhaher. The Salzburg Festival has announced its 2023 season featuring operas, concerts, recitals, and Mozart programs. Raphaël Pichon will conduct Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” in a new production by Martin Kušej. Andrè Schuen, Adriana González, Sabine Devieilhe, Krzysztof Bączyk, and Lea Desandre star. Performance Dates: July 27-August 28, 2023 Verdi’s “Macbeth” will be conducted by Franz Welser-Möst and directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski. Vladislav Sulimsky stars in the title role alongside Tareq Nazmi, Asmik Grigorian, and Jonathan Tetelman. Performance Dates: July 29-August 24, 2023 Gianluca Capuano conducts Gluck’s “Orfeo ed Euridice” with Christof Loy directing. Cecilia Bartoli, Mélissa Petit, and Madison Nonoa star. Performance Dates: August 4-14, 2023 Verdi’s “Falstaff” is set to star Gerald Finley, Simon Keenlyside, Bogdan Volkov, Elena Stikhina, Ying Fang, Tanja Ariane Baumgartner, and Cecilia Molinari. Ingo Metzmacher conducts the Christoph Marthaler production. Performance Dates: August 12-30, 2023 Martinů’s “The Greek Passion” will be conducted by Maxime Pascal and directed by Simon Stone. Gábor Bretz, Matthäus Schmidlechner, Charles Workman, Sebastian Kohlhepp, Julian Hubbard, Aljoscha Lennert, Sara Jakubiak, Christina Gansch, Helena Rasker, Łukasz Goliński, and Scott Wilde. Performance Dates: August 13-27, 2023 Teodor Currentzis conducts Purcell’s “The Indian Queen” with Jeanine De Bique, Julian Prégardien, Rachel Redmond, Jarrett Ott, Andrey Nemzer, and Amira Casar. Performance Dates: July 31 & August 2, 2023 Marco Armiliato conducts Bellini’s “I Capuleti e Montecchi” with a cast that includes Michele Pertusi, Elsa Dreisig, Aigul Akhmetshina, Pene Pati, and Roberto Tagliavini. Performance Dates: August 19 & 21, 2023 John Eliot Gardiner conducts Berlioz’s “Les Troyens” with Michael Spyres, Lionel Lhote, Ashley Riches, William Thomas, Laurence Kilsby, Alice Coote, Paula Murrihy, Adèle Charvet, and Beth Taylor.
