’Hey My Friend’ - Sergey Denisov feat. Maria (with arrangements, intuitive version)

well, the story of this video is – i like the idea of being inspired in unorthodox ways. for example when i was learning how to read music i used to do this – i would attach notation to the lamppost outside in the street, and stand with my guitar reading music and people would go by and i thought ‘cool!, everybody is watching me reading music!’, i felt the presence, inspiration of something that is a bit different and it made me feel very good besides the undeniable educational value ) So, one night, I think it was this summer, August, I was walking through the victory square in Kaliningrad, and noticed two creative personalities walking by, so i went up to them and said: ‘hello, I would like to do a creative interview with you, guys’, they liked the idea so we ended up sitting in a cozy café and in about 5 hours, after the interview was over and i, like a skillful wizard was filled with new emotional colours, feelings, perceptions under my belt, that’s a kind of thing you are experiencing after exploring the personality in a creative way. then I invited Maria to take part in creating live intuitive music video in my home studio, so we did it. she is not a musician but she has an interesting personality and that’s what matters. she was expressing the nuances of her inner self using percussive instruments and I was playing the composition on my acoustic guitar. then, after the acoustic video was born and started to live happily around the location of my website) I thought it would be a good idea to write arrangements upon this musical extravaganza so I did. When you write arrangements ’in’ a song’ it’s like you are building the new sacred world within a composition, there are many subtle connections between distinctive personalities of the instruments. anyway, i started with electric guitar and its edgy, mild personality. delicate inclusions of piano added certain maturity to the composition that was soulfully extended with elegant violins, I wrote back vocals for the bridge and choruses to create a harmonic relationship between the main character and the ones that sometimes can give you goosebumps especially if you allow music to take you away into this special place inside to get away from it all. Between the voices that saturate composition in the last chorus i added a little bit of dirtiness with a pinch of overdrive guitar, which is very quiet though - it’s not easy to hear how dirty it is. i carefully extracted this, either Scottish or Irish type of atmospheric melody inside for the bridge enunciating the end of the phrase with elusive changes at the end of every run, I built the voices at that particular moment in a way so they gradually attract other voices with each new bar, creating the climax before diving into the next part of the story. well the song is finished and i feel happy inside, See you! s i’d like to thank Kozilenkova Elena for creating this incredible abstract art of her perception of me and the music i make. the story behind this abstractly black and white little creature is – i was performing at the upper lake for 3 creative personalities, i was also interviewing them in between the songs. one person turned out to be an artist. and i had an idea, ‘let’s do this, i will play a couple of songs and you will try to depict what i do musically, personally and artistically by drawing a reflection of what you feel, hear and perceive within the aura and atmosphere of what’s happening, what do you think?’ said i, ‘well, that’s a good idea, Sergey’ said she, taking out one of her pencils asking me for a piece of paper, i had my diary in my pocket so ‘you, can use this’ i told her, handing her my exercise book and she started to draw… s
