This is the old Russian romantic song. It was brought to Europe (France) by the Russian famous emigrant singer and poet Alexander Vertinsky in the 20s of the 20 century. The nostalgic tune of this song “By the Long Road“ (in Russian) became very popular in the West and it is known now as “Those were the days“ with English lyrics first sang by Mary Hopkins in the 1968.
