Eight years ago - the United Nations announced that - for the first time ever - more people lived in cities than in rural areas. But what are the social and economic factors at play here - why are people drawn to urban areas - and what does it mean for society? At the start of the 20th century - just 15 per cent of the world’s population lived in cities. Today - over fifty per cent do - a figure that’s rising by the day. And it’s given rise to a new breed of metropolis: the megacity.
