Making Engine Wheels (1936)

Great shots of men making large wheels for steam engines. Men in workshop keep a close eye on a wheel as it turns on a machine. CU of cutting machine that takes slivers of metal off the wheel. More shots of men working with huge machines to prepare the wheels. CU of man at work. A large metal tyre is made to fit the rim. Various shots of the process. A man in a suit and hat inspects some of the tyres. Man watches closely as a hole is cut to hold the axle. Shots of wheel being attached to large engine crankshaft. Hydraulic pressure is used and we see a dial showing the pressure (it is marked GWR - Great Western Railway). The axle is forced into place. Shots of machines to balance the wheels. A man adjusts the springs to correct the balance as various tests are run. Molten metal is added to balance the weights of the wheels so they balance perfectly.
