Far right chant ’Yorkshire’ as mob breaks into migrant hotel in Rotherham

A far-right mob repeatedly chanted “Yorkshire“ as rioters stormed into a hotel used to house migrants in Rotherham on Sunday, 4 August. Masked rioters attacked police, smashed windows, launched planks of wood, and sprayed fire extinguishers outside a Holiday Inn Express. IHG, which operates the hotel, said: “The safety and security of our guests and colleagues is always our priority.“ The far-right has drawn widespread condemnation as the organising force behind disorder in multiple locations in the wake of the killings of three young girls in Southport on Monday. It followed the spread of false claims online that the suspect, identified as 17-year-old Axel Rudakubana from Lancashire, was an asylum seeker who had arrived in the UK by boat.
