On-point: Hostage negotiations on hold in Israel-Hamas war; what now?

가자 북부 병원 모두 운영 중단 인질 석방 협상 난관의 끝은? Gaza hospitals have ended up in the crosshairs as Israeli forces continue their operations against Hamas. Israel is blaming Hamas for using medical facilities as a shield, while Israel has been asked to take responsibility for harming innocent civilians as it targets Hamas militants. For more, we’re joined by Ezzedine C. Fishere. Welcome. 1. Israel condemned Hamas for using hospitals as human shields saying that Hamas has placed command centers under and near hospitals. Is that so? What’s your take on this? Who is to blame really? 2. This is why Hamas put hostage negotiations on hold over the situation at the Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza which the WHO says is no longer functioning. What will it take to reactivate talks on hostage releases? 3. U.S. President Joe Biden spoke on Sunday with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the two agreed that all hostages must be released. Will this help the resumption of hostage negotiations in any way? 4. White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said in an interview that Gaza’s hospitals should not be in a war zone. How can medical facilities be removed from the conflict zones? 5. What is the most realistic way to protect innocent civilians including babies at hospitals at this stage? Because fruitful deals between Israel and Hamas are unlikely to happen immediately.
