ВИА “Новый электрон“ - 1968-69 (Surf/Bossa Nova, USSR)

ВИА “Новый электрон“ - 1968-69 VIA “Noviy Elektron“ - 1968-69 “New Elektron“ was a soviet ensemble active throughout the 60s and early 70s, although largely their instrumental work is all that had survived the winds of time. Formed in the Lipetsk Philharmonic, Moscow, by frontman Valery Prikazchikov after transferring the name from an earlier group, Noviy Elektron was known for their surf melodies and adaptations of western songs which were largely non-existent in the “professional“ stage at that time, as well as being backing for singers such as Alla Pugacheva and Muslim Magomayev, the “Frank Sinatra of the Soviet Union“. The group continued working silently in the background til their eventual dissipation in 1970. While not strictly a VIA per se, more of a jazz quartet, Noviy Elektron did perform backing in concerts. Unfortunately, Valery Prikazchikov died in a car accident in 1985, some 30 years after the group formed. More info can be found here, a brilliant anecdote into the life of the band: Here I’ve compiled some of my favourite tracks from them, all of them incredibly soviet including the covers (I love the Weltmeister/Yunost organs used in many of these honestly), enjoy! 0:00 Быстрее звука 02:11 Тень твоей улыбки 05:47 Солнечный зайчик 07:55 Вчера (1) 10:37 Поступь века 12:58 Всегда вместе 14:44 Хорошее настроение (2) 16:44 Ватусси (Watussi) (3) 19:34 Посмотри 21:19 Весёлые туристы 24:01 Вечерние тени 26:04 Дом восходящего солнца (4) 1. Instrumental cover of House of the Rising Sun by The Animals *I should add I got Весёлые туристы and Bечерние тени the wrong way round on the album sorry!! Fun fact about Watussi, when performing live in the Tchaikovsky Hall, the homemade speakers were so weak that people in the amphitheatre could hear them, but people sitting in the stalls couldn’t actually hear anything!
