Amtrak 301: Day One Siemens ALC-42 Locomotive Debut

For Amtrak’s 50th Anniversary in 2021, the railroad chose to celebrate by painting six locomotives into commemorative paint schemes. Of the locomotives chosen, five were P42DC types and one was a brand new ALC-42 locomotive, built by Siemens Mobility in Sacramento, California. Engine 301 was given a special “Day One“ paint scheme, which is a recreation of the very first paint job to be applied to an Amtrak locomotive back in April of 1971. 301 was scheduled for completion and delivery to Amtrak in July of 2021, so I headed back down to the Siemens Mobility Factory in the Sacramento suburb of Florin to document the roll out of this unique new locomotive.
