China’s UN envoy: Ceasefire now, or risk ’perpetual vicious cycle of hatred’ for Israel & Palestine

China’s UN envoy Zhang Jun called for an immediate ceasefire between Palestine and Israel, emphasizing the urgency of preventing a humanitarian catastrophe. He urged Israel to abide by international law, highlighting that allowing the conflict to continue will lead to devastating consequences for both sides. Zhang reiterated that the fundamental approach to addressing the conflict is “the implementation of the two-state solution and the realization of peaceful coexistence between Palestine and Israel“. Amid the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli tensions, Russia opposes US plan of a pause and called for a ceasefire, addressing international concerns of spillover into the Middle East, echoed by Japan, UAE and Britain. The US initially presented a pro-Israel draft, later including a call for humanitarian pauses.
