China and Russia veto UN resolution on Gaza: Ambassador Zhang Jun’s Explanation

For more: China and Russia on Wednesday vetoed a draft resolution sponsored by the United States. In this resolution, the United States called for a “humanitarian pause“ instead of a full ceasefire in Gaza. The text includes a defense of the “inherent right of all states“ to self-defense and calls for compliance with international law. Zhang Jun, China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, explained the veto after it was cast.
