This song was thrust back into popularity by the 2017 Netflix series ’Money Heist’ (La Casa Del papel), leading to a worldwide rediscovery of the songbooks of the partisans of the 1930’s and 40’s. Bella Ciao is a partisan song widely used by anti-fascist resistance in Italy in 1943-45, and was adapted from an old protest Folk Song that is said to have originaed in the late 19th century.
