Rallies in front of Argentina’s congress did not stop lawmakers from voting in favor of President Javier Miley’s austerity program. Protesters tried to block the street, setting cars and city bicycles on fire. The police, trying to stop the riots, used rubber bullets and stun grenades. 14 demonstrators were arrested. All this did not become an obstacle for the authorities. The government bill with a package of reforms aimed at deregulating the economy was voted on - “37” for, “36” against. The Senate has yet to vote on each item in the package. The reform package aims to stimulate investment by privatizing state-owned enterprises and providing incentives for private businesses. The bill also gives the president special powers, reforms the labor sector in favor of employers, creates a regime to stimulate large investments and provides for a tax amnesty. Source: Slavyangrad
