Spooky Halloween

This isn’t the patch I sat down to make last weekend, but this is what came out of what was meant to be some simple experiments. It began as an attempt to better understand how to use the Sapphire Elastika module. I ran some white noise through it, filtered it down, fed it into Clouds, and accidentally made a sound similar to rain when you’re listening to it from indoors. To add some melodic ambience to accompany it, I added in Rings, then had the idea to run Rings into the resonator of a second instance of Rings (something I’d been meaning to try for a while). This produced a dreary sort of plucky guitar that really set the mood once I tuned it to a minor key with Marbles (which also serves as the clock for the whole patch). Next I added some simple chords using Instruo’s Troika, alternating back and forth with Instruo’s Tain. Then a subtle bass drone under that, some filtered noise to create an eerie wind, some delay and reverb here and there, a whole lot of modulation, and finally ran the mix through Surge XT’s Chorus and Reverb 2. And then I spent the rest of the week fiddling with it, tweaking this and that, until I was happy with it. Audio was recorded with VCV’s REC module, and video was recorded (separately, because my computer couldn’t handle playing this patch cleanly while also screen capturing) using OBS. Lastly, I added some soft compression in Premiere just to better balance the volume (I haven’t yet gotten into compressors within VCV yet...). If you’d like to download the patch, you can do so here:
