30 km from Aspindza, on the left bank of the Kura, the Vardzia cave complex is located in tiers in a tricolor rock. He makes a huge impression! You raise your head and understand that in a bare rock, in places up to a hundred meters high, an entire city has been hollowed out! This is a fortified monastery. It is located at an altitude of 1300 m above sea level. The length of the complex is up to 900 m, and it is arranged in tiers. Their number is from 3 to 13. There are more than 600 rooms inside the fortress: dining rooms, halls, churches, a belfry, royal chambers, storerooms, utility rooms, 25 marani for 185 qvevri.
