Liverpool Accent (Part 1 - Understand Native Speakers)

RE-UPLOADED WITH ADDED ’SLANG’ PART If you support Liverpool Football Club, you may understand that the Liverpool accent can be difficult to understand. Players like Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney, as well as football pundits like Jamie Carragher speak with a Liverpool (Scouse) accent. In this video, I want to give some features of the accent to help people understand it and also some ’slang’ that people use in the area. Students often say to me that they cannot understand native speakers in real-life group discussions. So, I recorded a discussion I had with my friends on Zoom about Liverpool players and I will upload it. Because it is a ’natural’ real-life group discussion, I have analysed the video and chosen some features that can help you understand native speakers when they are speaking in groups (not just people from Liverpool but native speakers in general). My friends in the discussion are all from Liverpool so the first video is about the accent - Scouse.
