It was quite known this version existed. Although fans are familiar with the final version from Dangerous sessions in 1992, as well as the leaked version throughout the years, it has been revealed that “Someone Put Your Hand Out” (rumored to be initially titled “Begging For Your Love”) was originally recorded and produced between 1982-1987 during various recording sessions; for the Captain EO Soundtrack, which remains unreleased, as well as for the Bad album, at Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angelos, produced alongside Joe Kehr and members of The Rag Tag Band. This was worked on around the same time as the original version of “. (Pretty Young Thing)” and “Liberian Girl” - both of those done primarily at Westlake. As previously noted, Michael first wrote and started work on this song in early 1982 during the Thriller sessions, originally for the original version of “. (Pretty Young Thing)”, but the song was inevitably shelved and re-worked shortly after finishing the “Thriller” album. Before beginning to shoot the short film “Captain EO”, Michael revisted the song again for his upcoming “Bad” album and began re-working it with the team in 1985. This version started off as an experiment between Michael & The Rag Tag Band, and producer Joe Kehr. It’s believed that the spoken lyrics later used for “Liberian Girl” come from this song. It’s rumored that the song was dedicated to Ana-Maria Rogers from Florence, Italy - Michael’s engineer who was hired by Joe Kehr. She was a dear friend and had an educational background and musical knowledge. Michael is providing all of the background vocals for the song, although at the last minute, Joe Kehr and Sarah Greim aka “Syradelic” added background vocals for the breakdown part and the extended cut. He began working further on this version from 1982-1987 with Joe Kehr and The Rag Tag Band, and was considered for release for the Bad album and the Captain EO Soundtrack at the time. While the song runs under 6 minutes, there are multiple edits of the track. The LP version is 5:49, while the extended / full-length version is 8:54. This is due to Michael, Joe and The RTB experimenting and vamping, with a longer ending and extra sections. Due to time constraints, the song was edited down to multiple versions to potentially fit on a vinyl if they ever decided to put it on any album. While they all liked this version, Quincy felt that the song was “missing something”, therefore he felt that it wasn’t good enough for the Captain EO Soundtrack or the Bad album. Michael and the team were also quickly working on the original version of “For All Time”, which later evolved into “Liberian Girl”, which made them less interested in the song. Ultimately, this version of the song was shelved into the vault, although it was later taken out of the vault to be sequenced into the Captain EO Soundtrack, which was planned for release in 1986, despite Quincy’s disapproval. //// P.S. - This is dedicated to Ana-Maria Rogers (aka @annyvee_ ) Îți mulțumesc că ești ochii și urechile mele, dragă prietene. 🖤 No copyright infringement intended.
