A Queer Race (1933)

“We can talk about our Derby - but in the Philippines they have one quite their very own“ Man in foreground with his back to the camera holds his hands in the air. He fires a pistol to start a race. Men sitting astride water buffalo use sticks to persuade the beasts to run along. L/S of a long country road, people stand on either side to watch the race. The bullocks run towards the camera. “A bit awkward to handle, perhaps, but good solid meat - and you can either ride them or eat them!“ A buffalo that has lost his rider runs towards the camera followed by a man on horseback. More riders are seen, stirring up dust. Was an item in Eve’s Film Review issue number 630. Note: paper records describe this story as “Bullock Cart“. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ.
