Devotees honor sea goddess Yemanja in Copacabana

Dozens of worshippers gathered at the Madureira Market, in the Copacabana area of Rio de Janeiro, to celebrate the sea goddess Yemanja. Locals gave offerings to the goddess, danced, and played festive music. Yemanja is a beloved deity in the Candomble and Umbanda religions in Brazil, believed to rule over the sea and protect wives and mothers.
