Full title reads: “Where in 1886 were but a few native Kraals ... Johannesburg and 300,000 citizens celebrate 40 years progress with historical pageant“. South Africa. L/S of carnival parade moving down crowd lined streets. People throw streamers at passing floats from upper floor balconies. Top shot of group Black children sitting on float decorated like mud hut. Behind the float a man herds along cattle in pairs. L/S of troop of cow boys on horses and carrying rifles walking in parade. Float passes on which Black and Caucasian workers demonstrate fabric manufacturing processes. Followed by crowd of bare chested Black men dancing. Intertitle: “Aeroplanes drop birthday greetings from sky where but 40 years only vultures flew“. L/S of aeroplanes flying in formation over parade. More shots procession. Top shot crowds.
