Banned at the Border

Banned at the Border We wrote this song as a spontaneous response to the American president’s executive order banning immigrants from several Muslim-majority countries. By contrasting the aims of this paranoid legislation with the democratic dream of “world-wide welcome“ articulated in “The New Colossus“--the iconic poem inscribed within the Statue of Liberty’s giant pedestal--our song laments the vast distance separating America’s founding democratic idealism from its current authoritarian cynicism.
